Med school prom!

Yes, we are thirty-something's who were getting dressed up for prom tonight. And yes, someone's prom date was knocked up.

But hey - at 39w1d, I looked pretty good in those 4" high hot pink patent leather stilettos if I do say so myself! Was fun to get prettied up!

Tonight was one of my favorite annual medical school events - med school prom! We had said that if we weren't in labor or taking care of a newborn this week, we would get all dressed up and go! So we did - and it was a blast!

Fun to see a lot of Brian's classmates and remember back to first year - I can't believe we're more than halfway through school already!

Until med school prom 2015 and our last year of school next year...

PS: Thanks to my friend Breck for the great black maternity cocktail dress!

The Time of Zwischen

I came across this blog post the other day and thought it so aptly described how I'm feeling lately. It was such a good reminder for me not to wish away the remaining days of my much-prayed-for pregnancy but to enjoy the special moments I have left when it's just me and this little one, connected to each other, feeling each other's movements and growing together. What an amazing miracle!
"Germans have a word, zwischen, which means between. I’ve co-opted that word for my own obstetrical uses. When I sense the discomfort and tension of late pregnancy in my clients, I suggest that they are now in The Time of Zwischen. The time of in between, where the opening begins. Giving it a name gives it dimension, an experience closer to wonder than endurance....We are not a culture that waits for anything, nor are we believers in normal birth; waiting for a baby can feel like insanity. Giving this a name points her toward listening and developing her own intuition. That, in turn, is a powerful training ground for motherhood."
Much like other times of anticipation in my life, I've found the greater joy in the "tension of the unknown," that space in between the before and after of the moment you've anticipated, because it's in that tension that I've learned (and continue to learn) how to trust in the Lord, trust His timing, and seek peace, even when all I want is resolution or an end to the tension.

There are two things I know to be true right now: 1) This little one will come when he/she is ready and the timing is just right for them, and 2) We have done everything we can to prepare for their arrival and are in great hands with our health care providers. The rest is up to providence! What good does it do me to wish away the hours, rather than enjoy each moment I have?

The challenge has been set before me. I will chose this "Time of Zwischen" and enter it with open arms.

A virtual baby shower

I was curled up on the couch this afternoon when I heard the delivery man drop off a package.

I waited until Brian came home to open it - and how fun to find this "virtual baby shower" inside! Surprise!

Some family friends of ours in Ohio put this sweet box of goodies together - complete with party favors, a banner, crepe paper, and even baby shower guessing games! I absolutely love it. Though I don't love that they all guessed the baby would come either February 8, 10, or 14. Ha! We're ready to meet this little guy or gal soon!

This child has been so eagerly awaited and prayed for - we are so loved. Thank you, Lord!

"For this child we prayed..." 1 Samuel 1:27

P.S. - Ignore my lovely outfit and sweatpants - it's basically the only thing that still fits!

Our little chunker

I wanted to share some 3-D and 2-D ultrasound images we captured today during our ultrasound. Look at those chubby little cheeks!

Baby B has a full head of hair and is already plumping up quite nicely - this mama would be happy if we met him or her sooner (rather than later)! Due date is about 2 weeks away now.

Can't wait to squeeze those little thighs and kiss those cheeks!
